College is a challenging time both in and out of class. Students on campuses across the country are coping with a new environment and facing myriad new choices and decisions daily. For many students, this is also the first time they are living on their own and facing the added responsibility of managing their own money — developing lifelong financial habits, patterns and, hopefully skills.

To help give students the information they need to become financially responsible, Capital One introduced MoneyWi$e University, a program to promote financial education and teach responsible spending and basic money management skills to college-aged students.

The information in the program is designed to help students:

  • Recognize the importance of handling their money wisely
  • Learn and understand basic money management skills
  • Evaluate their personal spending habits
  • Develop their own money-management goals
  • Learn to spot signs of potential financial trouble
